Summary
Why here? Why now?
This is a significant time for the performing arts in the North
Central region of West Virginia.
Okalahoma ~ 2001
Audiences for live Theatre are growing. Existing facilities
at West Virginia University are utilized to the fullest and undergoing
renovation, leaving no room on crowded schedules for WVPT and
its more than 60,000 audience members.
To make its choice for a new location even more credible, the
West Virginia Public Theatre enlisted the help of renowned theatre
consultant Michael Jenkins, head of the Dallas Music Theatre
and creator of the Six Flags entertainment enterprise. Mr. Jenkins
found that the Wharf District was the best option for the West
Virginia Public Theatre to pursue.
The West Virginia Public Theatre is, truly, the Peoples' Theatre.
Audiences from hundreds of miles around Morgantown come here
every season to enjoy the Theatre and the other amenities of
the community. With the advent of a new, permanent home for its
only professional theatre, located in the thriving Wharf District,
Morgantown will become, more than ever, a tourist destination.
The centerpiece will be the West Virginia Public Theatre Performing
Arts Center.
This will not happen without your support. Please consider
a meaningful gift, not to a brick in a building, but to an enhanced
and enriched way of life for hundreds of thousands of people...
for generations to come.
