The Campaign

Beyond the commitments received from the public sector, a campaign to raise $7 million from the private sector is being conducted by the West Virginia Public Theatre. The funds will come from a combination of individual, corporate and private foundation sources. The campaign theme, "Building on a Dream", reflects the aspirations and commitment of the West Virginia Public Theatre Board to turn a vision for a permanent home into a reality.
Q. Who is leading the campaign?

A. Honorary Co-Chairs are Theatre legends Bill and Susan Seaforth Hayes. A steering Committee has been established to monitor the campaign activity and guide the fundraising. The Committee is guided by well-known businessman and philanthropist Tom Rogers as Chair. Jim Robinson, former President of the West Virginia University Foundation, serves as Vice-Chair.
Q. How long will the campaign last?

A. In order to open the Theatre in 2005, the campaign pledges must be in place by June 1, 2004.
Q. How long can a donor take to pay a pledge?

A. Pledges may be paid over a five year period. A signed pledge form (or letter of intent), with an acceptance from the West Virginia Public Theatre leadership, must be on file in the Theatre offices as evidence of a pledge. Verbal commitments are nonbinding.
Q. What constitutes an acceptable gift?

A. Gifts may come in the form of cash, securities, in-kind tangible support, sale of personal property, or transfers through irrevocable trusts. Note: Mentioning the campaign in one's will does not count against the campaign goal. Only matured bequests can be counted.
Q. Can I put my family's (or my company's) name in the building?

A. Yes. A listing of named gift opportunities is available. Please discuss this with a campaign Steering Committee member or Theatre Staff member.
Q. Are gifts tax-deductible?

A. Yes, to the fullest extent of the law. Please consult a tax professional for more details as you decide upon your gift.
